Kenneth Dong, the alleged middleman of the P6.4 billion shabu shipment scandal, is apparently the godson of senators Risa Hontiveros, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and Ralph Recto.
Dong is a known businessman in Cebu.
Customs broker Mark Ruben Taguba was the one who accused Dong to be the middleman to Filipino-Chinese businessman Richard Tan, the general manager of Hong Fei Logistics.
Hong Fei Logistics was the company that transported over 600 kilograms of shabu that was seized in Valenzuela.
Although Dong was accused and called to court, he denied being the middleman. During the inquiry of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, Dong said that he helped Tan in processing the shipment, but only to translate the cargo’s packing list from Chinese to English. Dong added that he did not directly help Tan. It was only though his friend Manny Li.
Dong testified that it was Li who sent him the shipping package which was written in Chinese. He added that after he has translated it, he just forwarded it to Taguba.
It was found out that it was actually Li who was listed as the translator of the list. To this Dong said that he also translated the same list after Li sent it to him.
Taguba said that it was Dong who forwarded to him the bill of lading for the shipment containing the type, quantity, and destination of the shipment. The cylinders in which the drugs were found was not listen on the lading. It was found out that it was Li who removed the name of the cylinders when he first translated it.
Dong was found out to have connections in the senate, via his wedding godparents. Senators Risa Hontiveros, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Francis Pangilinan ang Ralph Recto were primary sponsors in Dong’s wedding to Lovell Tee.
All four senators admitted to Dong being their godson, but denied knowing that he was tied to narcotics.
They added that if they had known he was linked to drugs, they would not have agreed to be his godparent.
